Zhangjiajie, Furong & Fenghuang: Put 7 Days in the Right Order

Plan a 7-day Zhangjiajie, Furong Town and Fenghuang route: use 3+1+2 hotel nights, move south without backtracking and choose the correct final station.

For seven days, use Zhangjiajie and Wulingyuan first, Furong Town second and Fenghuang last. Three nights in Wulingyuan protect two complete park days; one Furong night keeps its evening from becoming a roadside stop; two Fenghuang nights create one guided arrival day and one day at your own pace. The route then finishes at Fenghuang Ancient City Railway Station instead of backtracking to Zhangjiajie.

Why does Zhangjiajie → Furong Town → Fenghuang work?

Official railway geography places Zhangjiajie West, Furong Town and Fenghuang Ancient City in that order along the same north–south corridor in western Hunan. That does not mean the trip has to use trains. Homeground’s seven-day route moves between the three bases by private vehicle, so luggage stays with the group and the old towns can be reached without rebuilding the day around station transfers. The railway order simply confirms that the route keeps moving south without returning to Zhangjiajie.

Why split the six nights as 3 + 1 + 2?

Each hotel base has one job

Wulingyuan · 3 nights

Arrive once, unpack and keep two full park days between the first and third nights. This avoids a checkout before each forest day.

Furong Town · 1 night

Travel with the luggage, see the waterfall town after arrival and keep the evening. A day stop loses that slower night-time window.

Fenghuang · 2 nights

Arrive with the guide on Day 5, then keep Day 6 free for the riverside, lanes and optional paid visits without another checkout.

What happens on each of the seven days?

The route, hotel base and service boundary
DayRoute and overnightWhat is arranged
1Arrive in Zhangjiajie; Wulingyuan night 1Driver-only pickup from the confirmed Zhangjiajie airport or railway station.
2Wulingyuan night 2Guided forest-park day linking the confirmed mountain areas.
3Wulingyuan night 3Guided Ten-Mile Gallery and Golden Whip Stream plan, followed by the standard 72 Wonder Tower evening.
4Move to Furong Town; 1 nightGuide and private vehicle travel with the group and luggage.
5Move to Fenghuang; night 1Guide and private vehicle, followed by the public lanes and Tuojiang riverside.
6Fenghuang night 2Free day without a vehicle or guide in the base package.
7Leave FenghuangDriver-only transfer to Fenghuang Ancient City Railway Station, unless a return to Zhangjiajie is confirmed in writing.

Treat luggage and hotel doors as part of the route

The difficult part of a multi-base route is often the sequence between checkout, vehicle, hotel and the next sightseeing window. Keep the main luggage in the private vehicle on Days 4 and 5, confirm that each property can register foreign guests, and record room and bed needs before payment. Furong Town station is not the scenic-area entrance, and Fenghuang Ancient City station is outside the old-town walking streets. A station arrival always needs a final ground connection.

Who does this seven-day route suit?

A good fit when

  • You want Zhangjiajie plus both old towns without returning to the first hotel.
  • Two complete Wulingyuan days matter more than adding another destination.
  • You prefer luggage to stay with a private vehicle during the two hotel moves.
  • One independent Fenghuang day feels useful.

Rebuild the route when

  • The group wants only Zhangjiajie; a four-day route is more direct.
  • Repeated hotel changes are difficult for a traveller in the party.
  • Your confirmed onward flight leaves from Zhangjiajie rather than a rail connection from Fenghuang.
  • You need a guide or vehicle on the Fenghuang free day; that service must be added in writing.

Questions before booking

Should we visit Fenghuang or Furong Town first?

From Zhangjiajie, Furong Town comes first and Fenghuang comes next along the same western-Hunan corridor. This order avoids returning north to Zhangjiajie. If a fixed flight or train changes the final exit point, rebuild the order around that ticket.

Is one night in Furong Town enough?

It is enough for this route’s purpose: arrive with the group’s luggage, explore the included first-entry area and keep the evening before continuing to Fenghuang. Add another night only if Furong Town itself is a main interest.

Do we take a train between the three places?

Not on the published Homeground seven-day route. The listed cross-town transfers use a private vehicle. Any train substitution must be written into the final itinerary and priced separately.

Where should we book the ticket after Day 7?

The standard drop-off is Fenghuang Ancient City Railway Station (凤凰古城站). Buy the onward ticket only after the final itinerary confirms the station and transfer time. A return to Zhangjiajie is a different transfer and quote.
