A vegetarian private tour with Homeground China is one of our published routes with the meals added. Lunch and dinner each day are at restaurants chosen for your standard, whether vegetarian, vegan, no onion and garlic, or Jain, and your guide orders in Chinese and checks what goes into each dish. The tour is private, with no shopping stops. Before you pay, we tell you in writing which meals are included and where a stop cannot meet your standard.
What is included
- A published private route: the hotels with breakfast, private vehicle, guide and admission tickets listed on that tour’s page.
- The meal plan: lunch and dinner on touring days, at vegetarian restaurants where the city has them and at ordinary restaurants briefed in advance elsewhere. Its price per person is set out in your written quote.
- Your standard, written down: before the trip we record what each traveller does not eat, including egg, dairy, onion and garlic, and root vegetables, and the guide carries it in Chinese.
- Mixed groups: tell us how many of you are vegetarian. Restaurants are chosen so that everyone can eat, and the guide orders for both.
- Yangtze ships: meals are served by the ship. We request vegetarian meals for your group and confirm in writing what the ship will serve, before you pay.
- Indian vegetarian meals on request, in the cities that have Indian restaurants.
Routes that suit vegetarian travellers

| Chengdu, pandas and Sanxingdui | 5 days | One base for four nights. Sichuan cooking has many tofu and vegetable dishes; hotpot needs a separate vegetarian broth |
| Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou | 6 days | Three cities close together, with vegetarian restaurants in each |
How booking works
- Send us your dates, the size of your group, the route you like and what each of you does not eat.
- We reply with a written quote: the route, the hotels, the meal plan and its price, and any stop that cannot meet your standard.
- You confirm the quote before you pay anything.
- On tour, your guide takes you to each restaurant, orders in Chinese and checks the dishes. You do not have to search or translate.
Vegetarian tours: questions
Do you offer vegetarian tours of China?
Yes. Any of our private routes can be booked with a vegetarian meal plan: lunch and dinner included at restaurants chosen for your standard, with a guide who orders in Chinese.
Are vegetarian meals included in the price?
Yes, when you choose the meal plan: lunch and dinner on touring days. Its price per person is in your written quote. Hotel breakfast is included in every tour.
Can you arrange a vegan or Jain tour?
Yes on a private tour. Vegan and no-onion-garlic meals are planned mainly at Buddhist-style vegetarian restaurants. Jain meals need a written list for each kitchen, and we tell you where a town cannot do it.
Can you arrange Indian vegetarian food?
In large cities that have Indian restaurants, yes, and we add those meals to the plan. Small towns and scenic areas generally have none.
Our group is mixed. Is that a problem?
No. Tell us how many are vegetarian. Restaurants are chosen so everyone can eat, and the guide orders for both.
What about the Yangtze cruise?
The ship serves the meals. We request vegetarian food for your group in advance and confirm in writing what the ship will serve before you pay.
Is the tour private?
Yes. Only your group travels, with your own vehicle and guide, and there are no shopping stops.
