First confirm PEK or PKX: they are different airports. In daytime with manageable luggage and live rail service, the usual public-transport route to PKX is Subway Line 4, Line 10 at Jiaomen Xi, then Daxing Airport Express at Caoqiao. PEK has no single default: compare the current airport bus, Line 4 to Line 2 to Capital Airport Express, and a road vehicle against the exact hour, terminal, luggage and flight cutoff.
Choose the airport first, then the mode
| Route | Good fit | Practical drawback | Verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beijing South → subway → Daxing Airport Express → PKX | Daytime, manageable luggage and live rail service | Station corridors, transfers, separate airport express and terminal walk | Current subway route, last train and flight terminal |
| Beijing South → current airport bus → PEK | A dated departure fits and its station stop is clear | Waiting, road traffic, intermediate stops and terminal order | Official platform, boarding point, departure and served terminal |
| Beijing South → subway/Airport Express → PEK | Rail is running and transfers suit the group | Cross-city interchange and luggage through stations | Live route, operating window and terminal |
| Authorised taxi/ride-hail → either airport | Several people, large bags or rail is closed | Road variability, pickup-zone confusion and toll/traffic | Airport code, terminal, legal pickup and realistic buffer |
One rail route from Beijing South to Capital Airport (PEK)
A practical option is Line 4 → Line 2 → Capital Airport Express. Check the operating notices for all three lines before travelling.
- At Beijing South (北京南站), follow Subway Line 4 signs. Take the train towards Anheqiao Bei (安河桥北), passing Taoranting and Caishikou, and leave at Xuanwumen (宣武门).
- Change to Line 2. Choose the platform whose next stop is Hepingmen (和平门), and stay on the train to Dongzhimen (东直门).
- At Dongzhimen, follow Capital Airport Express (首都机场线) signs and take an airport-bound train. Match your flight to Terminal 3 (3号航站楼) or Terminal 2 (2号航站楼), rather than leaving at the first airport stop automatically.
- Follow departures and your airline signs after leaving the airport train. Include interchange walks, waiting and airport procedures in the connection; reaching a station before its last train does not guarantee the later lines are still running.

One rail route from Beijing South to Daxing Airport
Use these station names on the signs and check that the lines are running for your arrival.
- After leaving the railway platforms at Beijing South (北京南站), follow signs for Subway Line 4. Take the southbound train towards Tiangongyuan (天宫院), pass Majiabao (马家堡), and get off at Jiaomen Xi (角门西).
- Change to Line 10 and choose the direction whose next station is Caoqiao (草桥). Travel one stop and get off at Caoqiao.
- Follow the interchange signs for Daxing Airport Express (大兴机场线), then board towards Daxing Airport (大兴机场). Stay on past Daxing Xincheng (大兴新城) to the airport.
- At the airport, follow signs to your airline's departure area. Count interchange walks and waiting for each train separately from time on board.
Work backward from the airline cutoff
A three-hour gap from scheduled train arrival to flight departure is the whole connection, not three hours at the airport. Judge it against your flight's own domestic or international check-in and bag-drop deadlines, including every interchange. Allow for station exits, transfer walks, waiting and delays as well as the Airport Express ride.
- Airline check-in/bag-drop and boarding deadline.
- Correct airport terminal walk and security/exit procedures.
- Road or rail journey plus extra time for delays.
- Beijing South platform-to-exit walk and pickup/transfer.
- Train-delay allowance and a decision point for abandoning the connection.
What the traveller changes
Light, daytime
- Rail gives a predictable structure
- Keep every transfer name
- Check last service anyway
Family or many bags
- Count lifts and corridors
- A direct road vehicle may simplify
- Keep child-seat needs explicit
Late arrival or international flight
- Use a much larger buffer
- Know the live bus/rail cutoff
- A near-airport night can be the safer itinerary
The transfer clock starts before the railway exit
A train arrival time is the time at the platform, not the moment a traveller enters a taxi or airport train. The group may still need to leave the carriage, collect bags, follow the correct exit, cross a large concourse and find a pickup or metro entrance. Keep everyone together until the mode is confirmed. If a driver is meeting you, exchange the train number, passenger name, live delay and an exact signed meeting point rather than the words ‘Beijing South’.
Classify the connection before selecting a vehicle
| Connection | Planning position | Required response |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic flight on one protected booking | Airline rules determine protection; city transfer is still the traveller's responsibility | Confirm the operating carrier, terminal and cutoff |
| Separate international ticket | Highest consequence if the train or city transport fails | Use a larger buffer or sleep near the airport |
| Late-night arrival | Public-transport choices may narrow while road demand rises | Verify the final usable service and legal taxi queue before boarding the train |
| Group with checked bags | Platform exit, vehicle size and bag drop all take longer | Do not calculate from the fastest solo, hand-luggage case |
Set a go/no-go point before the train reaches Beijing
- Record the airline's own check-in, bag-drop and boarding deadlines; do not replace them with a generic airport recommendation.
- Subtract a terminal-security margin, city-transfer margin and railway-exit margin from the earliest relevant cutoff.
- Choose a trigger—such as a specified train delay—at which the group contacts the airline and changes transport immediately.
- Keep the flight booking, passport, airport code, terminal and legal pickup instructions available offline.
- If the arithmetic has no defensible margin before travel, change the train or add an airport night rather than hoping every segment runs at its minimum.
Wrong airport or failing connection
| Problem | Response |
|---|---|
| Train arrives late | Recalculate against the airline cutoff and switch only to a verified faster route |
| At the wrong airport | Contact the airline immediately, then use the current official inter-airport or road option |
| Direct Daxing bus appears in an old guide | Do not rely on it: the Beijing South Daxing Night Line 2 was suspended from April 7, 2026 |
| Last rail service missed | Use the official airport-bus platform or legal taxi queue; do not accept hall solicitors |
Beijing South to airport questions answered
How do I get from Beijing South Railway Station to Daxing Airport by metro?
Take Subway Line 4 southbound towards Tiangongyuan to Jiaomen Xi (角门西), change to Line 10 for one stop to Caoqiao (草桥), then take the Daxing Airport Express to Daxing Airport (大兴机场). Count interchange walks and waiting separately from time on board, and check that all lines are running for your arrival.
How do I get from Beijing South to Capital Airport (PEK) by metro?
One practical option is Line 4 towards Anheqiao Bei to Xuanwumen (宣武门), Line 2 to Dongzhimen (东直门), then the Capital Airport Express to Terminal 3 or Terminal 2, matching your flight's terminal. Check the operating notices for all three lines before travelling.
Is there a direct bus from Beijing South to Daxing Airport?
Do not rely on one: the Beijing South–Daxing Airport Night Line 2 was suspended from 7 April 2026. Beijing's April 2026 notice retained and adjusted the Capital Airport–Beijing South bus, so for PKX compare the metro connection at Caoqiao with a taxi or ride-hail.
Is three hours enough between a train arriving at Beijing South and a flight?
Treat three hours as the whole connection, not three hours at the airport. Judge it against your airline's own check-in and bag-drop deadlines, and include leaving the platform, transfer walks, waiting, the ride and possible delays; if the arithmetic has no defensible margin, change the train or add an airport night.
Are Daxing and Capital Airport interchangeable?
No. Daxing (PKX) is not a new terminal at Capital Airport (PEK), and reaching the wrong airport means another major transfer. Show the driver the airport code plus terminal rather than the words “Beijing Airport”.
