Wangxian Valley's cliff houses were built where a granite quarry once worked. When to arrive for the evening lights, tickets and hours, and how to pair it with Wuyuan.

Wangxian Valley (望仙谷) is a cluster of ancient-style wooden houses and pavilions clinging to cliffs more than 110 m high in Shangrao, Jiangxi, in south-east China. It looks centuries old, but it was built as a scenic area where a granite quarry once worked, and its fame comes from short videos of the lit-up cliffs at night. Arrive in the late afternoon, stay until well after dark, and sleep nearby or in one of the cliffside hotels. It pairs naturally with the villages of Wuyuan and the mountain of Sanqingshan.

What is Wangxian Valley?

The valley lies in Wangxian township, Guangxin District, at the foot of the Lingshan mountains. Xinhua reports that it was a granite quarry where villagers lived and worked until a ban on disorderly mining; the cliffs were then turned into cliffside hotels, skywalks and waterfalls. It is a national 4A scenic area. In the first quarter of 2025 it received 615,800 visitors, and videos tagged with its name had about 3.23 billion views on Douyin. Come for the setting and the lights, not for an untouched old village.

Why go at night

After dark the cliff houses, the bridges and the lanterns light up, and that is the view people come for. CCTV reported that over the 2026 spring and Qingming holidays about 75% of visitors entered in the evening, that the busiest hour begins at 18:00, and that the scenic area had replaced neon and spotlights with warm yellow light. Enter in the afternoon, see the valley in daylight, eat, and stay for the lights.

Tickets and opening hours

  • Hours listed on Trip.com: 09:30–23:00 daily, ticket sales stop at 20:30 and last entry is 21:00. Over the National Day holiday it opened at 08:30 and sold tickets until 21:00.
  • Price: we could not find an official 2026 price list. A ticket platform listed adults at RMB 140, children at RMB 70 and seniors at RMB 110 in April 2025; prices and packages vary by date and channel.
  • Children under 6 or up to 1.2 m tall enter free; those aged 6–17 get a discount with ID.
  • Check the price and the last-entry time on the day you book, especially on public holidays.

How long to stay and where to sleep

Half a day from mid-afternoon to late evening covers the valley. Because the lights are the point and last entry is at 21:00, a night in or near the valley is far easier than driving back to a city afterwards. Avoid the National Day and Qingming holidays if you can.

Getting there and what to combine it with

  • Wangxian Valley is in the countryside of Shangrao. Most visitors arrive by road from Shangrao’s high-speed rail station or come on from Wuyuan or Sanqingshan.
  • Wuyuan: villages of white-walled Hui-style houses, best given two nights.
  • Sanqingshan: a granite mountain and World Heritage site, a full day on its own.
  • Jingdezhen: China’s porcelain city, a good start for the same route.
